EasiSpeak microphone, $125 (pro version) and $92 (basic version) available from itmadesimple.com
EasiSpeak microphones are like a USB memory stick with a microphone attached, just like FlipVideo cameras aren't much more than a USB memory stick with a video camera attached!
The key to using audio and video artefacts is 'less is more.' Short segments are a very powerful artefact to play back to students. Kids need a fair bit of prompting to make short, succinct audio and video recordings. Many teachers suggest including a time limit as one of the criteria. eg. Can you explain the difference between prime and composite numbers in 30 seconds?
Some schools have a class set of iPod Touches, with teacher & student-created video and audio files loaded on for student use.
